Viola!!!

After all this time here is *real* evidence that I have been in drawing class since the end of September.

I was quite trepidatious about going to class this evening. Last Wednesday I had a really hard time. We were to draw a still life using scale and I.could.not.do.it!!! Maybe it was being constrained to drawing within a rectangle. Maybe it was the fact that I am not a very spatial person and cannot draw in 3 dimensions. (Forget kinesthetic abilities). I was absolutely unable to measure the scale of the still life set in front of me and transfer it to paper. I was so frustrated, I couldn't even get started and almost packed up my stuff and left, never to return to class again.

With a little encouragement from my friends and co-workers, I set off for class. Tonight we were to practice shading. First we worked with grey scale and practiced drawing a sphere. Then we each choose a drawing to copy.

Meet Xavier. He still needs a bit more work, but I'm pretty pleased with the outcome so far : .)

Mr. Xavier... One can only wonder what kind of life lives behind that face. There are experiences worth relating I bet... That the world would be better off for the hearing...
And then I wonder, if, this face comes form the mind of the artist, then is the life living behind the face, that of the artist? Has the artist lived those stories, or has the artist conjured the stories into being having seen the face in the minds eye?
Had to print him out to sit with him ahwile. I would chat with him... But if we passed each other on the street, would he think the same of me?
As for technique, I suppose the fact that I see Xavier as real, must be a reflection of the effectiveness of the drawing...
