A Rhetorical Question

So annoying little moments...you know the ones, those where you get stuck with a service charge for your parking decal because you had to add a class after the registration period, the salad that caused your stomach to be distressed after lunch, the website that crashes (twice) while you are trying to get hotel reservations for Disneyland, as well as no confirmation of the reservation so you have to call to confirm, the cost for class supplies and registration (being forced to buy 100 sheets of construction paper instead of the 50 you need and the health service fee paid for the health service you won't use), the pie crust that isn't flaky because you had to put it in the fridge last night, the glass of wine that is just a little bit "off" because its probably been sitting around too long...are all to balance out the fact that your life really is great and these are minor speed bumps in your otherwise perfect existence, right?

I give you a resounding Yes. I completely believe, at least in my life's path, that they're there to remind myself to be humble, not take advantage of the goodness that's fallen upon me and to continue to grow and learn from these challenges. Even the smallest of challenges pose something for me to learn from. Be it patience or acceptance that some things can't be changed or chosing to change my attitude about the situation and not letting it all bother me. My goal is to try to take those little annoyances and learn from them somehow and not be weighed down by them.
Gotta practice good car karma to get over those minor speed bumps, right? :-)

Phin, I was surfing and found the following. Talk about synchronicity...It seemed to go so well with what you are saying.

"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun even more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting. I wish you enough pain so that even the smallest of joys in life may appear bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish you enough hellos to get you through the final good-bye."

Isn't that a lovely thought? So from me to you, Phin...I wish you enough.

Can I just say "ditto" to the comments left by Madretz and Cate.

Minor speed bumps. The little stuff that just slows you down. But it does mound up, doesn't it?

Keep in mind, these all may be part of synchronizing your life.

PS: I loved the way you wrote this. . . I felt as if I was hitting the same stumbling blocks.

The other stuff I'll give you 'cause I think you're right - there is no light without shadow but, there was NADA wrong with the pie! ;- ]]

As much as I don't wish to be off by responding to a rhetorical question, it seems like, by looking at all the comments, you've hit a universally agreed upon insight. There is no light with out the dark which gives it a place to shine. There is no sound unless there is a silence from which it can spring. There is no form unless there is a space for it to occupy. How would it be if we could actually get to the place where we loe the bumps because of the contrast they afford? Now there's another rhetorical question because I don't expect to get there any time soon... But I do enjoy a good sunset.
